Sarah Jane Frost is a photographer who specialises in capturing images of botanicals, seascapes and gardens in a unique way. Born in 1970 in the deeply rural county of the Lincolnshire Wolds on the East coast of England, Sarah studied for an honours degree in Modern Arts at Kingston University, Surrey between 1988-1991 and from the mid-1990s worked in the professional world of book and magazine publishing. It was during a period of employment at Radio Times magazine in an editorial role that Sarah came into contact with the world of photography and her love affair with the medium began.
In 1998 Sarah was awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Photojournalism from the London College of Printing in Clerkenwell, London and began her career as a professional photographer, working on her own commissions and assisting other well-established photographers. She also managed a busy photographic studio in Shoreditch and sold stories and images to media organisations. In 2002 Sarah left her busy life based in London and Brighton and moved to the countryside to start a family. During this time as she raised her children and took a break from commercial photography, Sarah worked as a journalist and began to experiment with creative photography focusing specifically on the natural landscape and plants around her.
In 2012 Sarah moved to West Cornwall and found a new direction. After working in a well-established gallery for several years, Sarah began to sell her own photography and now exhibits regularly.
A long time supporter of environmental causes, Sarah now focusses on creating botanical still life , abstract seascape and garden images with a difference. She has her own unique and intuitive vision which is reflected in a distinctive photographic style. Sarah has a profound interest and personal belief in the medicinal and healing properties of flowers and plants and this is at the heart of everything she captures through her lens.
Sarah holds a Licentiate of the Royal Photographic Society and is a member of the Royal Horticultural Society and the Bumblebee Conservation Trust. Her chosen charity for 2019 is Friends of the Earth UK and a donation will be made to this charity from all sales of her artwork.
